Domestic Slave Trade

Even though the slave trade was illegal, slaves were still being sold. How did this happen?

  1. This happened because the slave trade wasn't closely regulated. White people back then twisted and abused the law to their heart's content. I think that this happened out of a need of greediness like almost everything that these people did during this period of time. People needed slaves sometimes because they needed a business so they could live and their family could be provided for.

  2. The slave trade still happen because people allow it to still happen. Even through it was illegal to sell slaves after the year of 1793. People still sold slaves because they wanted to keep making a profit. In my opinion, it still happen because not enough people put in a good effort to stop buying slaves. In addition many of the blacks and some whites were only concern about the slaves trades any many northern states as well. Many people in the south were not being convicted and sentence to jail if they were caught selling slaves.

  3. Slaves were still being sold by being kidnapped and Cuba helped the United States in the slave trade because they knew that if the slave trade stopped the slave population would drop and the profit of slaves would start to decrease and there would be no one left to work on the plantations.

  4. The slaver trade still continued to happen because people were really apathetic about it and still allowed it to happen. Slavery was all about money and making a profit so of course people would still continue to buy and sell slaves if they wanted to be able to provide for themselves and their families.

  6. I believe slave trade was still going on even after it was illegal because many people didn’t want it to be over. There were a lot of greedy people in those times who believed slavery was the best thing since slice bread. They still wanted the profit and felt that if no-one was stopping them, then what was the point? The whites changed the rules and made them convenient for them so that they could continue doing what they had started so long ago.
