I did Denmark Vesey's rebellion. Denmark Vesey was a slave from the Caribbean. He was bought by Captain Joseph Vesey and they moved to Charleston, South Carolina. In Charleston, he won the local and bought his freedom. He organized a rebellion that was supposed to take place. Because of snitching, he and his followers were caught and then executed.
Pointe Coupee, they were basically fighting over class and the spicifics to the situation where that they planned to set the plantation on fire then when the other owners came to put it out they would kill them then go plantaion to plantation and killed the master and any slaves that would refuse to join the rebellion. Unfortunately some Indian jawn snitched on them and they began to search slave quarters for any weapons and strange people.
Between the months of March and April, ten fires blazed in the city, culminating with four fires on a single day in early April. More than a hundred slaves were brought into the basement of the city hall on charges of burglary, arson and insurrection. Thirteen slaves were burned at the stake, and 70 others were sold into the backbreaking slavery of the Caribbean. Two white men and two white women were also hanged. Seven other whites were permanently expelled from New York City.planned to overthrow Anglo American authority, turn it over to the Spanish, possibly setting up a black governor.
I did my presentation on Gabriel's Rebellion. Gabriel was a blacksmith and he was the slave of Thomas Prosser. Gabriel's claim to fame is his famous plan to get an army of about 1000 slaves to revolt against the white slave owners of Richmond Virginia, where he was from. Gabriel's plan was ruined because on the day he planned to attack there was a major flood in Virginia that flooded out the bridges and the streets. Gabriel had to postpone his attack for the next day, but there were two slaves that didn't want their masters to be killed. Those two slaves informed their masters who then informed the governor. Gabriel escaped and was captured by slaves. Gabriel didn't give information on the other slaves that were involved in the revolt and he along with 26 other slaves were hanged.
My rebellion was The New York Slave Revolt of 1712. The rebellion occured due to the brutality that slaves of New York were recieving. They were able to interact with American Indians and free blacks because they were condensed in one area of lower Manhattan. On April 6, 1712 at about midnight the slaves finished up their meeting at a local tavern. An outhouse was then set abalaze. While the local slave owners attempted to put the fire out the rebels struck. The militia was then called by the then governor of New York.27 people were captured and in the end 6 were aquitted. The rest were either burned alive or were placed in jail.Strict laws were then put in place to keep another rebellion from occuring.
I Presented George Boxley. He Was a white abolitionist and fomer slave owner. Based On Heaven sent orders he planned a slave rebillion. He wanted slaves to come to his house equipped. This plan may have been succesful, but a local slave by the name of lucy informed her master of this plan and boxley was imporsoned. 6 other slaves were also imprioned or executed and boxley escaped.
My Rebellion was about the South Carolina Militia Vs. Slaves. The slaves plan to killed other slaves holders.. The slaves group was lead by A guy name Jemmy. He gathered 80+ slaves as he killed more and more slave holders. Unfortunately the governor of south Carolina manage to captured a slaves and force him to tell them about the other slaves hide outs. Jemmy and the other slaves were soon discover and were eventually decapitated by the south Carolina governor and other slaves holders.
The rebellion I chose to do was Nat Turner's Rebellion. It tookplace in Southampton, Virginia in 1831. Nat Turner had started recieving visions and signs in 1821 which lead to him and 4 other slave friends starting a revolt. They started by killing his whole owner's family first and then continued on throughout the entire neighborhood killing mostly white woman and children. It lasted for about 2 days untill the whites finally got word of what was really going on. They sent out militia and eventually captured everyone, except for Turner. He was caught later on by a white farmer at gunpoint, and was sentenced to a hanging and skinning on November 5.
