Slavery Expansion

Why do you think slavery expanded westward?

  1. Slavery was an enterprise and it's no surprise that it expanded westward. The west was just developing and they needed a way to make money. It was a different place than where the other 13 original colonies were.

  2. Slavery expanded westward to follow the rise of cotton and the success that came along with it. Even though they had machines like the cotton gin to sperate the seed from the fiber, slaves still had many uses they could work in factories on the machines and numerous other odd jobs. Without slaves the westward movement wouldnt have been as successful.

  3. I think slaver expanded westward because of the free land and because of the soil devastation in the south. I believe Since there was an oppurtunity to go to the west and use lands, people started to move there and slavery was brought along by slave owners.

  4. In my opinion I believe that slavery expanded westward in the United States because of the results that it gave the colonies in the East. Slavery proved to be a force to reckon with in the terms of labor. The labor that was put forth by slaves gave the south its economic standing. Why not produce those results in other places? So I believe that the reasoning was plausible. Send slavery westward to advance the economic status out there. Whereas it was just open land with nothing to make it boom.

  5. It was another way for white's to make more money. It was new land that needed work done. Slavery was always going to gain money because it was an institution that hard independent hard working labors. That why the whites expanded slavery westward.

  6. I believe that slavery expanded westward because of what it would eventually do for the colonies. There were a lot of opportunites that would come with moving to the West such as better land and soil, and without the slaves, nothing could be accomplished.
