Some groups that started during reconstruction were the carpetbaggers and the scalawag. They wanted to take control of their states and their local government. It quickly adopted violent methods, and was involved in a wave of 1,300 murders of Republican voters in 1868 and its main purpose was to resist reconstruction in the wake of the American Civil War.
One group that was against blacks during Reconstrucion were the Knights of the White Camelia. This group was similar to the KKK. The majority of the chapters were in the Deep South. Unlike the Klan, the members of this society were higher class and so called normal individuals.
The white league was a group that was established in Louisiana in 1874. The white league was primarily link to the KKK. Many people think the the Colfax Massacre of 1873 was cause by the white league. During the Colfax massacre, the white league causes six political republicans to resign from there jobs. Unlike other organizations the white league work openly and many member were known by other people. They had there own newspaper stand which made it possible for people to know them.
The Jim crow laws were against the promotion of black society. Some examples of the Jim Crow laws are the segregation of schools, public places, and public transportation. They even segregated bathrooms. I think this was disrespectful and this discrimination was wrong. I remember watching videos in middleschool and how restaurants wouldnt serve blacks and how blacks had their own fountain. Its real sad
